As kent police launch a health and safety enquirey into 90 deaths from C.Difficile at Maidstone and TUnbridge Wells hospital trust, many people will be asking are our hospitals safe?

But before we start blaming Government (the favourite) or Nurses or Doctors it is worth remermbering one sobering thought – most hospital infections get into hospital because we take them there. C.Difficile resides in the gut and normally causes no effect. However, if someone is on antibiotics these can kill the bactteria that normally cope with C.Difficile and it then flourishes.
