Poems about us

Newsnight Review is asking for poems that define our times. Here is mine:

I wont be loud
I wont shout and scream
I wont be violently left or right
Or worry about God or no god

I wont make my hurt known
I wont question the messengers
I wont admit to being deceived
As the lies wash over me

I wont have the answer
I wont look beyond my own life
I wont fully understand
As others pretend they do

I wont measure the oceans
I wont recycle ALL my things
I wont compare nations
Just to be somehow superior

I will just be me
I will sit here quietly
I will smother my anger
At being completely mute in my own world

(PS: Happy Birthday Natasha!)
