Press Estatic that they Caused Mayhem

No Elelction

The British Press have done their stuff. They have pressed all the right buttons over the last couple of months, they have wound up the politicians and now they are sitting back to watch the politicians beat each other up. And are they pleased with themselves? They are almost crying in the laughter of the school bully. Once again, the fourth estate proves that they are probably the most irresponsible group of people on the planet.

The favourite phrase of the day is “Bottle It,” charitably donated to the fray by the thugs in the opposition partied. Apparently, only 100 days after taking over leadership of a governing party and with polls up and down, any decent politician on would have gone to the country. Huh? What sort of logic is that? The entire fiasco is based on the press habit of using the most convenient interpretation – in other words, saying what isn’t rather than what is.

Brown Refuses to Confirm Election!

That would be a perfectly logic headline following an interview a couple of weeks ago when interviewed by Andrew Marr on his Sunday morning programme. He was asked about it, and he politely said he had other things to worry about, like running the country. Fair enough. If that had been a conversation between Gordon Brown and 99% of the country, that would have been the end of that. We would have logically asked him what those other things were and live would have actually moved forward.

But that is no good for the press. They don’t want life to move forward. They want it to stagnate, to rot, to putrefy in illogical but convenient piles of excrement. And most of all, they want it to be wearing their mark. A politician must NEVER be left to mean what they say, They must mean what the PRESS says.

Brown Refuses to Rule Out Election!

That looks better. Now the press have a story and the whole system grinds to a halt. And the politicians follow the press down the gutter like a gross herd of sheep. Cameron starts using nasty catch phrases that would have my mother fuming with anger if I said such things. Campbell is no better, though he lacks convincing venom. Labour ministers decide to dangle the hope on the end of a fishing line, thinking this was their clever idea and not realising they have been played for the fools they really are.

And Gordon Brown gets himself into a whole and doesn’t know how to dig himself out. If he were Thatcher or Blair, he would have come out Guns blazing. Though that would have turned off the country even more in the long term.

The BBC have published a time line of unconnected events which they obviously hope proves that they were only following a story. Even Nick Robinson is trying to forget that he originally said this was hype and he doubted downing street were wasting their time on it The newspapers have been falling over themselves to bleed Gordon Dry. The Sun, who has been told by Murdoch to crush Brown because he is refusing to do as he is told over Europe is having a field day. As is every other newspaper in the country.

But, what of the people that actually matter?

Who?

You mean the press?

You have already talked about them.

Somewhere in the midst of this rubbish is the voter. And I don’t mean people like me who bother putting pen to paper, or those that comment on the various newspaper website. I mean the actual man on the street who at some point, every 4 or 5 years, likes to make his mark, and then get on with the rest of his life. That man, that woman, that 20 year old, that pensioner have been ignored. No one has cared about them. Oh, the press will say “but we raise this story because it is important to you!” Sanctimonious rubbish. The press raise the story, and possibly started this one, because they get a kick out of it and hopefully shift a few newspapers.

But I bet the News of the World sells more papers today because of their sensationalist article about Madeline McCann – that is the reality of life.
