Ross and Brand suspended
It seems that Princes Ross and Russ have been suspended from their jobs – and jolly good show too! Their suspension, not their programmes of course. During the progress of this escalating furore even the First Lord of the Treasury has become involved, as has the Boy David opposite.
Is it appropriate for politicians to comment on such a case of celebrity silliness? Well, strangely I think in this case it is. Jonathan_Ross|Jonathan Ross earns several million pounds a year from us, the licence fee payers – that is several fully produced dramas a year – and cannot and should not use us as a route to profitable notoriety. Russell_Brand|Russell Brand, though I doubt quite as richly paid, is in similar straits.
We all know, of course, that society has disintegrated to such a state that being foul, obnoxious and insulting is seen as the ultimate in good behaviour, but at the end of the day, the BBC should not be a bastion of such twisted morals – it has a duty toward sobriety and, perhaps, slightly older ideals. If that means it is accused of being uncool and old fashioned, so be it. Somebody has to be!
